About the Academy
The Academy of Wine Business Research is a leading international society of academics and scholars whose research is devoted to the economic, social, and management issues of the wine sector. Previously hosted in wine epicenters including Bordeaux, Tuscany, and Auckland, this is the very first time the conference will be held in Canada, hosted by Brock University’s Goodman School of Business. AWBR offers an attractive scientific program and an incredible opportunity for interested academics and industry professionals worldwide to share their experiences and knowledge. This is one event not to be missed!

This Year’s Theme
Each conference aims to explore a specific aspect of the wine industry. For 2013, the theme will be Wine Enrichment through Experience, focusing on the relationship between the enjoyment of wine and how it is experienced, as well as the role that personal narratives play in shaping industry trends. Storytelling, for example, has become increasingly popular in the wine industry. Whether by incorporating the winery or wine-maker’s history in the branding, or hosting special events and activities to complement tastings, wineries are finding innovative ways of telling their stories, and inspiring consumers to create their own stories based on their winery experiences. Wine regions rely a great deal on the unique “sense of place” that attracts those who yearn for the nostalgia of their last visit, or are experiencing wine for the first time. Along with various other business topics, this conference will explore some of the most salient elements that contribute to the enjoyment of wine and the implications of these elements on the wine business.

Conference Overview
AWBR conferences have a long standing tradition of critical discussion and drive for quality research in an open and friendly atmosphere. As such, the program will include renowned keynote speakers, academic and applied sessions, evening social events, a Gala dinner, and a day devoted to visits of local wineries. To further enhance participants’ enjoyment of Ontario wines, the AWBR conference is scheduled immediately after The Riesling Experience conference and just prior to the Niagara New Vintages Festival. The schedule was developed to allow the blending of networking among participants and encourage the exploration of the beautiful Niagara Region and its various cultural and culinary delights.
